How accurate is TruBand?
Every IELTS checker says it is accurate. We publish how we test it, and the results.
Results not published yet. We publish numbers only after the test below is finished. We will not show an accuracy figure we have not measured.
How we test
- Fresh essays. Essays written for this test, not public samples. AI models may have already seen public samples, which would make any checker look better than it is.
- Real examiner-level scores. Each essay is scored by two qualified IELTS trainers. We keep only essays where they agree within half a band.
- Every band and task. Bands 4 to 9, Task 1 and Task 2, Academic and General.
- Same essay twice. We check that the same text always gets the same score.
What we will publish
- Average difference from the trainers' band (mean absolute error), overall and for each criterion.
- Share of essays within half a band, and within one band.
- How many essays, when we tested, and which model version.
Our bar before launch: average difference of half a band or less, at least 75% within half a band, and at least 95% within one band. We re-test every month and after any change to how we score.
Limits
- TruBand gives an estimate based on the public IELTS writing criteria. Your official score can differ.
- Reports show a range, not a single exact number, because every estimate has some error.
- Think a score is wrong? Tap "Score looks wrong?" on any report. If you later share your official result, it helps us test.
